How CE Hours Are Reported to TDLR

One of the most common renewal worries: "I finished my course — does TDLR know?" Short answer: your CE provider files your completion electronically, TDLR requires them to do it within 7 days, and you can verify it yourself online. Here's how the pipeline works and what to do if something's missing.

The provider reports, not you

TDLR-approved CE providers must electronically file a course completion report for every student, no later than 7 days after course completion. You don't mail anything, upload anything, or enter hours in the renewal portal — when you renew, TDLR already has your hours on file if your provider did its job.

That's also why the provider you choose matters: a slow or sloppy provider is the difference between renewing tonight and chasing paperwork for a week. We report every completion within 24 hours.

How to check your recorded hours

TDLR's Continuing Education Courses Look Up shows every CE course recorded against your license — search by license number and you'll see the course, provider, and completion date. Check it a few days after finishing your course and before you start your renewal.

You also receive a certificate of completion from your provider. TDLR rules say to keep it for at least 2 years — it's your proof if a reporting question ever comes up.

If your hours aren't showing

  • Wait out the filing window first — providers have up to 7 days (ours post within 24 hours)
  • Confirm the license number on your account matches your TDLR license exactly
  • Contact the provider with your certificate of completion in hand — they must correct the filing
  • If the provider is unresponsive, contact TDLR with your certificate as proof of completion

What we report for you

When you finish a Dooney's CE course we file your completion electronically with TDLR within 24 hours — including your license number, the TDLR course number (#32440), and your completion date — and simultaneously email your certificate. By the time you sit down to renew, the hours are already there.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to send my CE certificate to TDLR?

No. Your provider files your completion electronically. The certificate is your personal record — keep it at least 2 years — but TDLR gets the data directly from the provider.

How long does a provider have to report my hours?

TDLR requires providers to file completion reports electronically no later than 7 days after course completion. We report within 24 hours.

How do I see the CE hours TDLR has for me?

Use TDLR's Continuing Education Courses Look Up (linked below) — it lists every recorded course, provider, and completion date for your license number.

I renewed but my CE wasn't on file — what happens?

TDLR treats completed CE as a prerequisite to renewal, so missing hours block the renewal rather than void it afterward. Verify your hours in the lookup before starting your renewal to avoid the dead end.
